Christiane Amanpour On 'Colbert': Talks Egypt, Cats (VIDEO).

  Christiane Amanpour was on Tuesday's "Colbert Report" to talk to Stephen Colbert about the Egyptian revolution. She told him that the revolution was a good thing, despite any fears he might have about what will happen next in Egypt.
"People have been asking especially since 9/11, when is this part of the world going to have democracy?" she said. "And the minute they do it everyone goes no, no, no!"
Amanpour also said it was "interesting" that the U.S. was "calling for democracy democracy democracy, and then maybe doesn't like the outcome."
But the highlight of Amanpour's visit was undoubtedly the adorable miniature safari suit she brought for Colbert's psychic cat--and her namesake--"Christiane Aman-purr."

Our beloved 'Seinfeld' Actor Len Lesser Dies.

 Actor Len Lesser, best known for his role as Uncle Leo on 'Seinfeld,' is dead, the Associated Press reports. The veteran character actor died at home in Burbank, California from cancer-related pneumonia. He was 88.

 

In a statement, Lesser's daughter, Michele Lesser, said, "Heaven got a great comedian and actor today.... Thank you to all the people who helped make my father's last journey special, and surrounded with love. The doctors, nurses, and staff have been outstanding, and Dad was in phenomenal hands. His passing was peaceful, with great dignity, and surrounded by those who loved him dearly."

 In addition to his widely known role on 'Seinfeld,' Lesser appeared on many other television series over the course of his 60-year career including: 'Get Smart,' 'That Girl,' 'The Munsters,' 'The Monkees,' 'thirtysomething,' 'ER' and 'Everybody Loves Raymond.' His most recent TV appearance was on TV drama, 'Castle.'

Lesser also appeared in a handful of movies including 'Outlaw Josey Wales,' 'Kelly's Heroes,' 'Birdman of Alcatraz' and 'Death Hunt.'
The actor is survived by his daughter, Michele; son, David; daughter-in-law, Julie; and grandchildren, Jonathan, Kayla and Mayah.

Stupidity

Ministry refuses to pay 'stupidity' fees over Khlong Dan project.

Permanent Secretary for Natural Resources and Environment, Chote Trachu, said yesterday that the Pollution Control Department wouldn't pay Bt9 billion in "stupidity fees" to a private company over the Bt23billion Khlong Dan Wastewater Management Project in Samut Prakarn and would instead counter sue NVPSKG Joint Venture.

 The Arbitration Committee on January 12 ordered the department to pay the joint venture damages as well as 7.5 per cent in interest calculated from February 28, 2003, which amounts to Bt9 billion. Chote said the fees were "stupid" because the project contract was invalid right from the beginning, adding that the country's money should not be spent on things like this. The department also issued a letter objecting to the Arbitration Committee's decision and sent related documents to the Permanent Secretary for Finance on February 2 - within 90 days as allowed by law.

The department has asked the Office of AttorneyGeneral for legal guidelines because it aims to file a civil lawsuit saying that the Arbitration Committee's ruling went against the criminal court's verdict that corruption existed in the project and the involved politician and state officials had been punished. The department will also file a lawsuit against NVPSKG Joint Venture at the Civil Court seeking billions of baht in compensation because the project had unnecessarily been put on hold for a decade.
The department had sought Bt12 million from the Central Budget to carry out a sixmonth operation to assess damages and seek rehabilitation solutions, he said, adding that the assessment would be used in the lawsuit.

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – Michelle Pfeiffer is in negotiations to reteam with Tim Burton for "Dark Shadows," Warner Bros' big-screen take on the 1960s gothic vampire TV soap opera starring Johnny Depp.
The movie has an April start and has been casting up, with Jackie Earle Haley, Eva Green and Bella Heatcote already on board.
Depp will portray Barnabas Collins, a self-loathing vampire living in a Maine manor who is searching for his lost love.
Pfeiffer would play Elizabeth Collins Stoddard, the reclusive matriarch of the Collins family which runs the Maine town. The character has not left the mansion since the disappearance of her husband a decade earlier.
Pfeiffer is finding herself very much in demand this new year. The actress is juggling a role in New Line's all-star "New Year's Eve" and is shooting "Welcome to People," the directorial debut of scribe Alex Kurtzman.
The last time she worked with Burton was in 1992's "Batman Returns" where she memorably played Catwoman.

Bonnaroo 2011 Lineup Leaked Early.

Although the lineup for the tenth annual Bonnaroo event (Manchester Tennessee, June 9-12) is not official until today at noon EST, but it appears through many sources and rumors that the list below just may be the official Bonnaroo 2011 lineup!
Fans have been waiting a long time for this announcement to be made, and it’s finally time.

According to Wikipedia, Bonnaroo was first held in 2002. The Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival is an annual four day music event created and produced by Superfly Productions and AC Entertainment. Main attractions are the multiple stages of live music, featuring  ”a diverse array of musical styles including indie rock, world music, hip hop, jazz, americana, bluegrass, country music, folk, gospel, reggae, electronica, and other alternative music.” If you are a music lover, this will be the place to be!
Headliners for Bonnaroo will include Eminem, The Black Keys, Buffalo Springfield, and Arcade Fire. Other acts include Gogol Bordello, Bruce Hornsby, Panic at the Disco, Lil Wayne and Mumford and Sons.

Reporter Stroke, CBS News correspondent Serena Williams suffered an apparent stroke on the air on Sunday, as she frantically slurred her words during a show at the Grammy Awards, according to a video and news from Business Insider. Branson, a double Emmy nominee, began her piece with a smile on her face but her expression quickly turned to one of fear that the right side of her face began to droop slightly as she spouted words incomprehensible and I tried to turn the air above a newscaster at the station’s CBS affiliate. Serene Branson appears, stroke, symptoms of the AU, so when I hear an EMT dispatched her home, I’m a little tired. I? Ove read the comments of several people involved in EMT, the evaluation of the participant, saying they should be fired. I know the official said Branson has not suffered a stroke but I think she should go to hospital and be checked.
The video began making the rounds on the Web early on Monday morning as people began to share what they thought was just a funny clip of a television journalist struggling to form words. But on a second listen, it becomes obvious that something was wrong with Branson, leading to speculation that she may have had a stroke in the air.
Its not at all clear that Branson, a reporter for CBS affiliate KCBS-TV, trying to say in the kill line. As she works in her report outside the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Branson, AO expression changes and she seems to get nervous, she realizes what she is saying doesn, AOT sense. CBS 2 LA corresponding affiliate Serene Branson slurred her words during a live report on Sunday night at the Grammy Awards. The band flashed Grammy pre-roll.
Several sites make fun of her speech, but she was taken to hospital and may have suffered a stroke, according to the Telegraph UK. “Sending my best to Serene Branson that is ok,” Kim Baldonado, a reporter for NBC 4 News in Los Angeles, wrote on Twitter. “It does not seem to have something to laugh about.” But Kristin Cruz, co-host of the Mark & Kristin Show on KOST 103.5 in Los Angeles, said on air that Branson, who has been nominated for two Emmy Awards, was reviewed by staff and EMT sent home with a friend.

The Bachelor Recap: Breaking All the Rules!

Last night on The Bachelor saw four women punch their tickets to hometown dates, while we wanted to punch Brad Womack for his inability to emote. At all.

In fairness, he did open up to Emily a bit, and it did take some inner strength to "break protocol" for the women ... but seriously, lighten up, Jake. Er, Brad.

How did last night play out? Who's going on hometown dates and saying the word hometown 47 times in the process? Here's THG's trademark +/- recap!

 

 

The first of three one-on-one dates went to Emily Maynard. It started slowly, but Brad did open up and tell her that she's getting a rose at the ceremony. Plus 10.
Give him credit for breaking that rule (no roses were to be doled out on dates). But Minus 6 for calling her daughter Rickie the biggest "thing" in her life. Thing?
Shawntel Newton just flies under the radar. Odd, since she's a mortician. There's just nothing about her to dislike ... or to make you think she has a chance. Even.
Back to his rule-breaking ways, Brad gives Britt the ax in mid-date, sending her off the yacht on a dinghy! Then she has to pack in front of the other girls! Plus 7.
Michelle: "I do NOT want to go on a date with you guys." Whack job. Minus 3.
Chantal, Michelle and Ashley pose for Sports Illustrated on a group date. As luck would have it, that issue, featuring Irina Shayk on the cover, is out today! Plus 8.
“It’s something millions of women dream about doing,” Brad says of the date. Dude, you are an idiot who knows nothing about women if you think this. Minus 9.
Chantal O'Brien has put on some noticeable weight this season. Plus 10, because she admits this, it can only mean drinking a lot and she actually looks better.
If ABC wants guys to watch The Bachelor, topless swimsuit modeling shoots don't hurt. But Minus 5 for the women, for whom this was a colossal mind f*%k.
Unwilling to go topless (really?!), but equally unwilling to be upstaged, Michelle ups the ante the only way she knows how - straddling Brad and shoving her gigantic boobs in his face. Plus 20 for how obviously unhinged this girl is.
Ashley looks awesome in Sports Illustrated, we must say. Plus 8.
Minus 9 because Brad let that get so out of hand with Michelle. The other girls were VERY sad. We'd deduct even more but the light bulb did go on later.
Belated Plus 4 for the conch shell shot. Best group date ever.
Minus 7 for ABC making this date out to look like the final three of the season in earlier promos. You can't fool us, guys. The Bachelor spoilers do not lie.
Well, usually. Last season they did. Even Reality Steve isn't perfect. Plus 3.
You knew as soon as he said there would be no cocktail party that Michelle was toast. Give Brad credit, but Minus 7 for the lack of rose ceremony suspense.
Brad to Michelle, after giving her the boot for being too volatile: "Can I have your hand or not a chance?" Michelle: "Mmm, probably not." So awkward. Plus 5.
As seen in the video below, after Michelle gets in the limo, she just lets out a huge sigh and lays down. The end. Minus 16 for such an anticlimactic departure.
What made Brad more uneasy in next week's promos, meeting Rickie, or going to work with Shawntel? He doesn't "handle death well." Or feelings. Plus 9.

It goes without saying at this point, but Michael Jackson did not go out on a high note in 2009. Stress, desperation and medication were all taking their toll.
The star was so worried he couldn't perform his 50 London concerts, he worried out loud that promoter AEG would cut him loose and he'd have nothing left.
To illustrate just how stressed out he was, he would wonder aloud if he, one of the richest entertainers in history, would end up working at McDonald's.

Karen Faye, Michael's hairstylist for a quarter century, was interviewed by LAPD detectives days after MJ died, and described some of his innermost fears.
Faye told cops, "He was scared to death because AEG was funding everything. He said he would have to work at McDonalds if he didn't do these shows."
Faye also said she felt Michael was "self-sabotaging" with drugs because Jackson couldn't do all 50 shows and was in dire need of psychological help.
Others have speculated he was too weak to perform for years.
He was losing so much weight, his close friend said, "I thought he was under the influence of something." She points to his personal doctor as a source.
Not Dr. Conrad Murray, the physician on AEG's payroll who stands trial for involuntary manslaughter. She's talking about MJ's old friend, Dr. Arnold Klein.
Faye says Michael's assistant told her he was seeing Dr. Arnold Klein 3-4 times a week and was exhibiting signs of drug use. That's hardly a big stretch.
Days before Michael died, when Jackson seemed to be more lucid, she asked Michael's manager if he knew why Michael had taken a turn for the better.
His response, according to Faye: "'Cause Klein is out of town."
Klein does not face any charges for his treatment of Michael.
Murray, whose defense is likely to argue that MJ was already in a fragile state and did himself in (possibly by chugging Propofol), will be tried in March.
