Meet Dani Johnson: 'Secret Millionaire' donates to The Love Kitchen and more.
On the season premiere of ABC's "Secret Millionaire," Dani Johnson brought a tear to our eyes as she gave $100,000 of her own money to charitable organizations and needy people in Western Heights, TN, a poor area outside Knoxville.
Johnson was once on welfare, homeless, and struggling to support herself. "I grew up in a violently abusive and dug infested home where I was physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually abused," she tells WABC. When she was 21, she was homeless, but she started her own business out of the trunk of her car, selling a weight-loss product. Soon she'd turned the gig into a veritable empire -- she's now a beauty and nutrition expert with several self-help books to her name.
She's also a millionaire. So when "Secret Millionaire" sent her to live in Western Heights, TN, an all-but boarded up town, she was certainly in for a culture shock. Johnson visited several organizations that aid the struggling community and ultimately donated generously to all of them.
We were particularly charmed by The Love Kitchen. Twin sisters Helen Ashe and Ellen Turner serve 2,000 meals to hungry people each week - 80% of which are delivered to home-bound seniors and disabled people.
